3 ways+1 to make stress work for you at work

         When you are doing your job and somebody throws a load of their toxic, deal-with-this-NOW in your face-  

You may be able to negotiate the situation, but is it also your job to walk away with the creme de la crud that is dealt out?  No way! 

    Gather up all of that energy and do something with it.  

    The individual that dishes out a bunch of nastiness gives that energy a flavor, but it doesn’t have to stay that way.  Energy is just energy.  When you are given a free energy boost, you can allow it fester as it is delivered, or you can add some of your own spices to it and make it work for you.    

  1. Allow it to throttle you into productivity.

  2. Use it to focus your attention instead of distract your attention.

  3. Flip it around and improve morale or check on other customers.

    It is expected that you will have to deal with the outrageous occasionally.  But as the face of the company, it is also expected that you are capable of dealing with outrageous encounters professionally.  

*    If you find yourself unable to let it go,

then give it to the earth.  It may sound like a bunch of nonsense, but the earth is capable of taking that energy, recycling it into a pure state and using it as fertilizer.   

    You don’t have to announce that you are giving energy to the earth.  You can go through the entire process in 5 seconds with practice: 

  • Take a deep breath and gather all stored negativity.

  • On the exhale, gently send it into the ground. (If it takes a couple of deep breaths, then take a couple of deep breaths.)

  • Visualize all traces of the energy going into the earth and bubbling up as verdant green trees, foliage, or flowers.

    If you are worried about anyone watching, then don’t be.  If anyone is watching in this kind of situation, then it is likely that they also witnessed you getting hammered.  Take a moment to reset after experiencing an adverse situation.  

    Practice occasionally on your own.  Practice with positive and negative energy (from your point of view) and have your technique down so you are more prepared for a real-time scenario.  This tool will help you to thrive in the workplace and become a greater manager of the stressors in your environment.
